Setup instructions
Create a folder named 'ks' in the root of your flashcart. This is where your saved games will be written, so you will be unable to save your progress if this folder does not exist. To start the game, run the latest Kanji Strike nds file anywhere in the cart.Note: File save will only work on an NDS and not on an emulator.
Screens - Title
There are three save files. Each file records which kanji-pronunciation pairs a player has mastered.
Screens - Menu
The menu screen lets the player alter game settings.
Speed: How fast the blocks fall. Options: slow, medium, fast.
Blocks: The number of blocks. Options: 4, 5, 6.
Screens - Data
Shows how much the player has mastered, by grade level. Also allows the player to delete the save file currently in use.View mastered: Opens the browser screen. See next section.
Delete save file: Delete the save file currently loaded. The player is asked to confirm before the delete is carried out.
Screens - Gameplay
The player starts with 16 life points. When a meteor reaches the bottom of the screen, it explodes and causes 10 points damage. A life point is gained every time the player shoots down a meteor. Zero life points means game over.
The player shoots down meteors by matching the pronunciation on the missile with the character on the meteor. More than one meteor can be 'correct' at a time.
The data
The material is organized as pairs of a kanji and a pronunciation. It is divided into 11 grades by kanji.
Grades 1-6 correspond to school grades, as recorded in KANJIDIC.
Grades 7-9 are the rest of the Jouyou kanji, roughly divided into the same groups as Kanken levels 4 through 2.
Grade 10 is the new Jouyou kanji.
Grade 11 is the Jinmeiyou kanji.
